Ivalice Continuously Impacts Final Fantasy. It is a universe loved by many fans of the series and definitely a world I can’t seem to get enough of. Ivalice is a popular world that was introduced with the hit spin-off, Final Fantasy Tactics and has, since then, appeared in a number of games developed by Square. Without a doubt it will continue to do so in the future.
A year or two ago, Square was rumored to have silently backed a Swedish game developing company,GRIN giving them responsibility for making the game that was codenamed “Final Fantasy Fortress”. Fortress seemed to be set in the Ivalice of Final Fantasy XII but after some conflict, Square withdrew their funding, and the project seems to be on hiatus.
Ivalice Continuously Impacts Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (and Advanced 2), Final Fantasy XII and its follow up, Revelant Wings are all games that featured the world, but any word on it had been officially silent, with no statements from Square. That is, until Square announced Final Fantasy Tactics S last month.
Final Fantasy Tactics S is an iOS based tactics game that has social mechanics that allow you to battle people while also having a campaign mode. The details on this game are currently murky but we will be sure to update with whatever we find regarding the next entry in the Ivalice universe. Meanwhile, check out the official website for the game here.
I know this might be disappointing news to some people (people like me) who really want to see a true successor to the original Final Fantasy Tactics or a Vagrant Story sequel. But what the future holds for Ivalice is certainly a mystery – especially ever since Ivalice conceiver, Yasumi Matsuno left Square-Enix due to conflict over the development of FFXII. But rejoice. At last Ivalice is not ignored!
