All The Lightning Returns Costumes - Square Enix

All The Lightning Returns Costumes

Lightning Returns costumes have become a big deal for Square Enix. Recently, they reported that Lightning will have well over 80 costumes for players to choose from. Some fans have expressed their disgust with this new fashion statement that Square Enix is trying to implement on Lightning and Square Enix Origin takes a deeper look on why this is both a smart idea and a pretty stupid one.

Let’s go with stupid to begin this argument. Firstly, images like the one above are completely taking away the character Lightning truly is which is a fierce female who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, not take her clothes off. Square Enix is forgetting that a number of their customers are kids and they don’t need to be seeing questionable images like that or images of Sera in her purple bikini. Nobody cares what clothes the main characters are wearing as long as the game is good. Sure, making the character look appealing is a good thing but it sure as hell doesn’t make the game enjoyable from a gamer’s perspective. If a game sucks it sucks, and less clothes or different costumes won’t fix that.

Then again, maybe we should look at it from a different perspective. These days sex sells and Square Enix is trying to get a piece of that action by possibly trying something that could boost their sales. One thing I like about the costumes, and it’s probably the only thing I like, is that each costume has a boost or ability, for an example the L’Ange Noir costume enhances magic powers which is something that most gamers love. Take a look here to see all of the Lightning Returns Costumes and their abilities and boosts.

Time will tell if the “sex sells” method will work out in Square Enix’s favor; if it does somehow boost Lightning Returns sales, expect them to implement it in other games as well. We have posted a video that was released by Square Enix which shows off a few costumes for Lightning. We hope you enjoy it and head over to our Square Enix Origin Community and share your thoughts about the game and all the Lightning Returns costumes. You can also post a comment below.

The first part of this argument really is stupid. I’m going to point out why now:

    1. ” images like the one above are completely taking away the character
Lightning truly is which is a fierce female who isn’t afraid to get her
hands dirty, not take her clothes off.” The way I see it, that’s not really true. Yeah, it’s a little out of character for her, but clothes don’t make a person, the person makes the person. How dose what Lightning wear define her? It doesn’t. Next off, It’s not like she gets naked or anything, she’s just wearing something that shows a little skin. And even still, you don’t HAVE to use all the costumes. If you don’t like one don’t use it.
    2. “Square Enix is forgetting that a number of their customers are kids and
they don’t need to be seeing questionable images like that or images of
Serah in her purple bikini.” I facepalmed so hard when I read this… For one it’s not like Square Enix’s number one market is kids, and next the game is rated T for teen anyway so that just seems like a really pointless thing to bring up to me. And Serah? why is it bad that she is in a bikini?! I mean, I can kinnnddaaa see why people don’t want to see Lightning in a bikini because like I already said, it’s a little out of character for her. But for Serah?! Come on, that’s totally IN CHARACTER for Serah. And again, you don’t have to use all the costumes if you don’t want to.

I think the costumes are pretty cool. Like the article says, each costume has a boosts an ability so not only are you getting a badass new outfit, but it actually does something useful. Also they give Square something to sell for DLC so they make more money which is a good thing.
